Safety Incident Update: Gas Smell and Evacuation
Incident: A gas smell was reported in the 400 Wing at approximately 11:30 a.m. this morning.
Response: School administration evacuated the building, and the Fire Department was called. Students were moved to the Football Stadium.
All Clear: Students and staff were given the all-clear to re-enter the building at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Cause: The Bloomfield Fire Department determined the cause was a gas valve in a science lab left on
Current Status: The area has been ventilated, and there are no hazards remaining.
Follow-Up: The New Mexico Gas Company is remaining at the school to confirm the system re-pressurizes correctly.
Student Schedule: Students were allowed back in to collect items from the 4th hour and were asked to return from lunch at 2:30 p.m.
