To earn a diploma... students must also demonstrate exit competencies as mandated by the Public Education Department (PED) by making qualifying scores on competency examinations in reading, mathematics, science, social science, (English-not with NMSBA), and composition. Those who do not make a passing score on ALL (5 with NMSBA) 6 (With NMHSCE) sub-parts of the tests cannot graduate or participate in graduation activities.


Beginning with the 2007/08 schoolyear, NO 8th grade class will count as high school credit. (Prior years allowed for 8th grade Algebra 1 credit.)

† A student who successfully completes three (3) sports seasons, as defined by the New Mexico Activities Association and approved by the PED, or 3 years of marching band (see Band inside for more info), prior to the start of the student's senior year may substitute the one (1) unit physical education graduation requirement. If a student successfully completes two (2) sports seasonsprior to the student's senior year, the student may substitute one-half (1/2) unit for physical education graduation requirement. -- OR -- Students may meet the physical education graduation requirement by successfully completing one (1) credit of any of the physical education courses taught in grades nine through twelve. Three years of JROTC can also fulfill the P.E. requirement (see JROTC section for details).
